Hazelwood Student Wins Major Award

Ryan Quigley Receives Major Award

Ryan Quigley was awarded the Educational Achiever Award at the Annual Prince’s Trust Award Ceremony. This award celebrates young people who, against all odds, overcome barriers to develop educational skills.

Ryan started Hazelwood with low self esteem. He found school a challenge. He joined the Hazelwood GCSE Excel Programme, also known as XL, and flourished. XL involves team building and the ‘hands on’ approach to learning suited Ryan. In his first year of XL Ryan’s team organised three fund raising events for the local community and won a prestigious Community Impact Award with the Princes’ Trust.

Now in Year 13 Ryan is a leader. He monitors young students and guides them on the path to achievement. Ryan has been asked to work with the Odyssey Events Management Team to set up a major event in spring 2009. Ryan’s journey has been an odyssey and like Odysseus he succeeded against the odds.

Congratulations Ryan.
