Oliver Review

Rarely has poverty looked as glamorous or sounded as sweet as it did last week in Hazelwood College’s production of Oliver. It is not hard to guess just how much organisation, hard work and sheer commitment went into achieving such polished performances: all those involved should be justly proud of themselves. Set, costumes, music, acting and singing combined to entertain packed houses. An ambitious project involving a cast of over fifty students from all year groups, the musical provided another opportunity for the college to express its community spirit. By the finale not even the murder of Nancy, played by Ashley Sheppherd, could dampen the lively mood in the hall and the production ended with the audience participating in a rousing chorus. Special mention should be made of Chris McKelvey as Fagin, Amir Belkessam as Sikes and Carl Harrison as the Artful Dodger. more......
