Pastoral Support

The transition from primary to secondary school can be an exciting yet daunting time for parents and children. In Hazelwood, we do all we can to make this transition as smooth as possible. All new students are invited to visit and tour the College with their parents. Our transition programme is as follows

 Induction

An induction day for new students in June. This gives them an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the campus, to sample some classes and meet new friends.

An induction evening in June provides an opportunity for parents to learn about the day-to-day life of the College while their children are meeting in their new classes and getting to know their new Class Tutor.

A programme of induction is carried out in the first weeks of the new term which enables our Year 8 students to settle into the College.

Summer Scheme and Residential

Each July we run a Summer Scheme for incoming Year 8s. This scheme provides important support to students prior to commencing the new term. Each year there is a year 8 residential before mid term.

The residential is an integral part of the Year 8 Learning for Life and Work programme and is one of the many highlights of the year. We expect all our Year 8 students to attend.

Parents

Parents are invited in at the beginning of the new school year to meet with the Class Tutor. This enables parents and Class tutors to get to know each other and permits an exchange of information which is helpful in ensuring a smooth transition to the College.Open and friendly communication between home and the College ensures little problems do not become large ones.
