On Wednesday 28 March Post 16 students were given the opportunity to see what it would be like to work at a polling station with voters and at a count venue counting the ballot papers. The assembly hall was transformed into a mock polling station and counting venue. Virginia McVea, the Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland, spoke to the students highlighting the need for young people to vote and the importance they have in shaping the future of Northern Ireland.

One student commented, “Today was a really enjoyable experience and I feel fortunate that they chose Hazelwood Integrated College to deliver the training to, I would be very interested at working on election day and it has provided me with a great insight into the election process.”
